Dennis H. Raymond Jr.

Jul 29, 2022

Dennis H. Raymond Jr., 97, passed away at Langdon Place of Nashua, New Hampshire, on July 25, 2022. He was born on Oct. 26, 1924, in Springfield, Vermont, but has been residing in Nashua for more than 70 years. He was the son of Dennis and Viola (Parrett) Raymond. He married Barbara Lockwood on May 25, 1946, in Springfield. Barbara passed away after 50 years of marriage.

Dennis graduated from Springfield Highschool in 1943 and attended Tennessee State College.

Dennis was a proud veteran from the “Greatest Generation,” serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Corps, and U.S. Air Force. After his service, he went on to become an industrial engineer and foreman, working for Ingersoll Rand, and retiring from Impco in Nashua in 1986.

Upon his retirement, he became known as “the bird man,” for his ability to carve amazing birds from a block of wood. He was proudly under the tutelage of the renowned Ira Frost of the League of New Hampshire Craftsman. On Sept. 7, 1995, the Nashua Telegraph featured an article portraying Dennis and his carving abilities.

He was a fan of all Boston Sports teams. Hunting and fishing with his father and brother, Lloyd, playing cards, especially cribbage, were some his favorite pastimes. He always was learning and taught himself how to play bridge at 90 years old. One of his many talents was storytelling, usually making a short story incredibly long.

Dennis is predeceased by his first wife, Barbara, in 1997 and their son, Jefferey, in 1979. Later in life, Dennis remarried to Dorothy Choquette, who passed April 11, 2013.

He is survived by his daughter, Jill Monahan and her husband, Tom; daughter-in-law, Barbara Lepone; grandchildren, Kelly Monahan, Jeffery Monahan, Jamie Coppens and her husband, Mike, Dara Fogg and her husband, Kevin, Joel Raymond and his wife, Jessica; and great-grand children, Ella, Fallon, Morgan, Ethan, Megan, Mia, Taya and Joel Jr.
