Caroline Ann Newkirk

Jun 23, 2022

Caroline Ann Newkirk, 85 of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and a former longtime resident of Hollis, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Monday June 20, 2022, at Bedford Falls in Bedford, New Hampshire, peacefully after a period of declining health.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 3, 1937, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sidonie Christensen. After graduating from James Madison High School, Caroline worked on Wall Street for a few years until she married David D. Newkirk in 1959 and had a family. Caroline devoted herself full-time to raising her family. She would tell you Dave was more work to take care of than her kids. In 1972, the family moved to Hollis, New Hampshire, where Caroline established new friendships that she would maintain for the rest of her life. After Dave retired in 1993, he and Caroline became snowbirds, spending winters at their home at the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community in Port Orange, Florida, again establishing new friendships that she would maintain for the rest of her life. She was a resident of Hollis for 31 years before moving to Merrimack in 2004.

Caroline was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Amherst, New Hampshire.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Christensen.

Members of her family include her husband of 63 years, David D. Newkirk of Merrimack; a son, David D. Newkirk Jr. of Brunswick, Maine; daughter and son in-law, Pam and Steven Patterson of Merrimack; two grandchildren, Anastasia Newkirk of Natick, Massachusetts and Zachary Newkirk of Holliston, Massachusetts; daughter in-law, Olga-Maria Newkirk of Holliston, Massachusetts; sister and brother in-law Dorothy and Bobby DePasca of Brooklyn, New York; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, New Hampshire, Sunday June 26, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 27, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at the Rivet Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Cemetery in Hollis, New Hampshire.
