Margaret Kathryn MacEwen (Coffey)

Margaret Kathryn MacEwen (Coffey) died on Friday, June 17, 2022. She was born on Nov. 23, 1927, in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Coffey, and the sister of John Coffey (d. 2009). She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1945.

Peggy married Scott MacEwen on April 2, 1948, and attended Duke University with him. Upon graduation, they moved to Lee, Massachusetts, and St. Petersburg, Florida, before settling in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where they raised their daughters, Kimberly Donovan and Holly Krafka. In 1978, they moved to Amherst, New Hampshire, where they remained. Scott MacEwen died in 2009.

Peggy was an active member of the Souhegan Quilters Guild for many years, and a member of First Baptist Church of Amherst, New Hampshire. She belonged to several Bible studies and bridge groups and loved doting on her children and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Scott, with whom she would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last April 2.

Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Martin Donovan of Canterbury, New Hampshire, and Holly and Michael Krafka of Attleboro, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Astrid Donovan, Trystan Quayle, Keith Donovan, Colleen Donovan and Gabriel Ciobanu, Luke and Emma Krafka, Peter and Amanda Krafka, Nick and Alexis Krafka; four great-grandchildren, Drake and Tempest Donovan, Reven Quayle and Felicity Krafka.

A visiting hour will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 4-5 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford, New Hampshire. A graveside service will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Meadowview Cemetery, Foundry Street, Amherst, New Hampshire. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
