Richard Louis Fox

Jun 7, 2022

Richard Louis Fox passed on peacefully in his sleep Saturday evening May 28, 2022. Father, Husband, Brother, Veteran, Golfer, Attorney; Dad occupied many roles in life. Like many of us, a Mill City kid born and raised he was a bright young mind who studied his craft at Harvard and the University of North Carolina.

He served his country as an Officer in the United States Army.

The practice of Law was something that he loved and shared with others. He often would speak, abstractly of course, about particular cases and lay out the parameters of the argument. This was one of the greatest gifts he gave me; the ability to think pragmatically and entertain ideas from a number of different perspectives.

There are many stories I have heard from his Friends and Clients over the years but the thread that ran through them was, “He was fair.” Fair, honest, honorable; these are words we do not hear spoken about as frequently as we should these days. The prime example I remember being a Client he represented in a messy divorce. He proposed a reasonable settlement. Other Attorneys balked at it and several years and thousands of dollars in litigation later a settlement was agreed upon. Dad’s Client then noticed, ‘Isn’t this what you initially proposed Mr. Fox? How did you know?’ Dad responded, ‘I’ve been doing this for awhile.’ He operated from what is best for his Client not how many hours can I potentially bill. I have hope that we can gain wisdom from this notion of honor. His final days and hours were spent among loved ones. Christopher and I were fortunate enough to be by his side to say goodbye in his final hour.

We miss you, Dad. Here’s too finding your swing,

Your son, Matthew Fox
