Peter Anthony McGovern

Peter Anthony McGovern, born in Springfield, MA, Peter was the son of the late Madeleine (Ballard) McGovern and the late James Patrick McGovern. He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Sollecito-McGovern, his daughters Kira and Victoria McGovern, his step daughters Mary and Julia Fries, and grandchildren Chloe and Leo. He also is survived by his brother James of Springfield, MA and was predeceased by his sister Jeanne of Corpus Christi, TX.

Peter graduated from The Technical High School in Springfield, MA, New England College, and UMass – Amherst, where he received a BS and Master’s Degree in accounting.

Throughout his life Peter was an excellent pool player. At the age of 18, he competed and was awarded the winning trophy at a prominent competition in Springfield, MA.

In 1973 Peter began his career as a junior account at the prestigious accounting firm of Ernst & Young in Boston. Within two years he rose to senior accountant, auditing numerous large companies. Several years later he moved into the world or international finance with Digital Equipment Corp. During this time, he represented Digital in many countries around the world and lived in Japan for two years.

In 2011 Peter and his wife moved to Milford, NH where he pursued his life-long interest in bird watching. He appreciated the varied wildlife in Milford and enjoyed barbecuing and perfecting his famous chili recipe. Working past retirement, Peter served as a financial consultant for TD Bank in South Portland, ME.

Peter passed peacefully at home with his wife beside him. He will long be remembered for his wry wit, his spirited political debates, his generous spirit, and his love of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Church of Our Savior in Milford; the date and time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nashua Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
