Robert T. Ledger

Robert T. Ledger, 88, beloved husband, father, and friend, died peacefully on May 22, 2021 at his home in Amherst, NH where he had resided for the past 51 years.

He was born on December 22, 1932 in Portland, Maine to Roland and Eva Ledger. He married Dorothy Woodbury of Portland, Maine in 1960, and they had two children.

Robert graduated from South Portland High School, South Portland, Maine with high honors in 1950. Throughout his childhood, his family moved often, as his father was enlisted in the United States Army.

Immediately upon graduating from high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a highly skilled Electronics Technician from 1950 to 1953 aboard the USS Newport News CA-148 in the Mediterranean during the Korean War.

Upon being Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy, he worked as a TV and Radio Instructor at Maine Vocational Tech in South Portland, Maine.

Next, he worked as Central Office Equipment Installer for New England Telephone Company in Portland, Maine.

Robert was then employed by Philco-Ford Corporation as a Technical Representative for the Air Force until 1970. While there, he was Site Engineer at the Bucks Harbor, Maine Radar Station and then a Standardization and Training Specialist in Topsham, Maine for the 36th Air Division.

From 1970 to 1985, he worked as a highly skilled Computer Technician for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Nashua, NH. He retired in 1985 after 23 years of Federal Government service.

He was active in a number of organizations in the community.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) from 1976 on. He held many offices within Harley-Sanford VFW Post 4368 in Milford, NH and ultimately became Post Commander in 2017.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 23 in Milford, NH and held the office of Sergeant-at-Arms.

He belonged to the Nashua Fish and Game Association in Merrimack, NH for many years and enjoyed competing in target shooting. Robert won many awards.

He was active in the Boy Scouts both in his youth and then with his son.

Robert enjoyed hunting, camping, and canoeing. He was an animal lover and owned a number of pets over the years.

He loved his family dearly and always provided for them.

Robert is survived by his daughter Joanne Ledger of Nashua, NH, his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Linda Ledger of Milford, NH, his sister Rita Proctor of Citra, Florida, his sister Kathy David of Mena, Arkansas, a niece, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Ledger of Amherst, NH, who died on May 14, 2020.

Funeral services at Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford, NH were private as were burial services at Riverside Cemetery in Milford, NH.
