Lucien A. ‘Luke’ Desmarais

Feb 1, 2022

Lucien A. ‘Luke’ Desmarais, 91, formerly of Nashua and Hudson NH, passed away on Saturday January 29, 2022 in Willow Spring, North Carolina.

Luke was born in Hudson on July 15, 1930, a son of the late Roland and Victoire (Lussier) Desmarais. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Lucille (Delude) Desmarais and infant son, Michael.

Early on, Luke worked in his family’s store, Roland’s Variety, with his siblings before joining the Army to serve his country in the Korean War.

Returning from his military service, he joined Fimbel Door Company in Nashua where he started as a clerk and soon became sales manager, a position he held for decades. He was proud of the success of the business and his long list of happy customers.

After he retired, he started a small business creating custom crafted, embossed and intricately painted planters from redwood. He also enjoyed his favorite hobby of gardening and selling the fruits of his labor.

He was very active through his 80s, bagging groceries at the Market Basket store in Hudson when he was not caring for his wife. It brought him lots of happiness to work hard, help others and of course spread some joy socializing with customers.

Lucien is survived by one son, Richard Desmarais and his wife Kristin; one daughter, Michelle Adams and her husband Karl; four grandchildren, Meghan and Brent Morris, Beth and Joey Gallego, Mark Desmarais, Hannah and Nathan Espinoza; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Morris and Avery Gallego. He is also survived by his four siblings, Angie Bechard, Rosie Alain, his twin brother Medy Desmarais, and Leona “Tootsie” Morin.
