Glenn Robert Blanchard
On Sunday, January 23, 2022, Glenn Robert Blanchard (Mr. B.) passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Glenn was born on October 17, 1943 in Brentwood, New Hampshire to the late Rev. Theodore Blanchard and the late Ruth (Hoyt) Blanchard. The youngest boy and tenth out of eleven children, Glenn grew up on his grandfather’s farm in Raymond, as well as in many parishes throughout New Hampshire and Maine where his father served as a Methodist minister.
Glenn graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, Maine in 1961. He entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country as a chaplain’s assistant with tours in Japan and Vietnam.
Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Glenn returned to Maine and joined the Dunfey Corporation where he worked in several management capacities and also met the love of his life. Glenn married Sandra Malette on May 14, 1971 and they began their 50-year love story. Glenn and Sandi enjoyed the coast of Maine, golf, cruises, and time with their family and friends. Glenn especially enjoyed family vacations to Walt Disney World where he could take his princess, his daughter Amy, to meet the Disney princesses.
Glenn found his true passion in 1972 when he began his studies in elementary education. He graduated from The University of New Hampshire with his master’s degree in educational administration in 1985. Glenn gave his heart and soul to the children of Derry, New Hampshire for 28 years as a sixth-grade teacher, assistant principal and principal at Derry Village Elementary School. Outside of the school building, Glenn enjoyed golfing, reading, barbecuing and tending to his garden and lawn.
Glenn is survived by his wonderful wife Sandi; his daughter and very best friend Amy Chenette; her husband and Glenn’s sidekick John Chenette; and his granddaughters and true lights of his life Lauren and Taylor Chenette. He was also very loved by Roger Shepard, Emily St. John, Otis Shepard, Marjorie Smith, Deborah Malette, Leslie Risch, Wendy Malette, Karen Lapio, Amy Malette, Sheila Fraine and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Theodore and Ruth Blanchard; his siblings Joan Corette, Patricia Kelley, Nancy Grahn, Ruth-Ann Blanchard, Theodore Blanchard, Jr., and John Blanchard; and his mother-in-law Elaine Malette.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff on 3-East at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, the staff at St. Joseph Hospital Rehabilitation Services, and especially the staff at Community Hospice House.
Those wishing to express their sympathy are invited to calling hours at Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, New Hampshire, on Thursday, January 27 from 3:00 – 5:00. A service will follow at the funeral home. Internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
