William ‘Bill’ Callen

Jan 5, 2022

William “Bill” Callen of Merrimack, NH, took his last lap around the racetrack of life on Sunday, January 2,2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Bill reached a record 75 years young for the Callen men. Born on October 5,1946 in Centerville, IA to Clair and Nola Callen, he was the older brother to Lois and Lola. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1964 and proudly served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1967. He worked at the University of Iowa in the Engineering Department before Honeywell and transferred his family to New Hampshire in 1980. He went on to work for EMC and retired in 2015. He was also a member of the American Legion Roy L. Chopek Post 17 in Iowa City.

Bill had a lifetime passion for all things racing. One of his favorite places to be was at the track making people laugh and showing people how it’s done! He started his own business, Racing Communications, as his passion was to strive to better the racing world. In addition to his racing business, he could be seen working at most of the tracks in the northeast. The simplest pleasures in life brought great happiness to Bill. He was the epitome of “just wing it.” He loved both a quiet evening at home spending hours programming and putting together radios, and a rowdy night at the track.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Clair Callen and Nola (Harrison) Callen and sister Lola (Callen) Rath. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce (Kobes) Callen and children Kimberly (Callen) Cady and her husband Steven, Stacey Callen, Bryon Callen and his wife Bridget, and Lesley Callen and her fiancé James Boucher. He is also survived by his four favorite grandchildren, Meghan & Devyn Cady, and Brayden & Brynn Callen, as well as his sister, Lois (Callen) Roth and many nieces and nephews. Bill will be remembered by countless friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched by his kindness and silly antics.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish New Hampshire. Calling hours will be at Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium, on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1:00-4:00pm. Bill will be honored with a Celebration of Life at a later date.

The family would like to thank Home Health & Hospice Care of Merrimack for their care and compassion. We know Bill will always be with us from the pits. Green, Green, Green! To leave an online condolence please visit www.rivetfuneralhome.com.
