Charles ‘Dutch’ Schwab

Dec 11, 2021

Charles “Dutch” Schwab passed away unexpectedly on December 6th, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH.

Dutch is survived by his loving wife of 49 and a half years, Joyce (Paolini) of Merrimack, NH, his sons Charles Schwab Jr. of Ashland, MA and Brian Schwab of Andover, MA, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Schwab, and three grandsons, Carson, Casey and Wesley. He was predeceased by his infant son Eric Peter Schwab.

Dutch was born on August 20th, 1947 in Norwalk, Connecticut to John L. and Gertrude (Gibson) Schwab. He spent parts of his childhood in both Easton and Fairfield, CT. He graduated from St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale, CT in 1966 and received his bachelor’s degree from Johnson State College in Johnson, VT in 1971. His career as an industrial engineer at Diaphragm Industries in Portsmouth, NH and Vice President of Engineering at DiaCom in Amherst, NH brought him to New Hampshire, where he lived in various towns, including Nashua for 37 years, where he raised his family and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish.

Dutch, being the classic family man, focused all his time, attention, support and effort doting to his family’s needs, always over his own.

While raising his boys with Joyce, attending every school and sporting event was non-negotiable to Dutch. He loved sharing his passion for skiing and hiking in the White Mountains with his kids all the way into their adult lives, not to mention his lifelong battle against the back nine on the golf course. Dutch also loved taking trips to his favorite places with friends and family, including Bonita Beach, Lake Winnipesaukee, Las Vegas and Chincoteague Island in Virginia. He also would enjoy any excuse to have a drink and conversation, with someone he loved, no place more than his screened in porch in Nashua. He was an avid sports fan with an eclectic list of favorite teams including the Atlanta Braves, New York Knicks and Rangers. His true favorite team was the Green Bay Packers.

His passion for family reignited in 2012 when Dutch made the seamless transition from “Dad” to being “Pop”. It brought him immeasurable joy to be a fixture in the lives of his three grandsons. The return of sporting events and school events to show unending support to his grandsons was his passion in his later life. Endless hours retrieving golf balls, throwing passes, reading books, hosting sleepovers and making the famous “Pop’s Pancakes” filled the end of his life with joy.
