Barbara A. Berrios
Barbara A. Berrios, age 91, a resident of Nahua, NH since 1965, died on November 25th, 2021. Barbara was born on September 16, 1930 in Camden, NJ, daughter of Marian Black (Vandergrift) and Charles H. Black. She attended elementary school in Camden. The family moved to Audubon, NJ in 1939 where Barbara continued her education graduating from Audubon HS in 1947. She took many courses at various educational institutes in Philadelphia, PA and continued with her education at Granite State College in NH graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in American Film Through Film and Music in 2000. Besides living in New Jersey until 1956, she also lived in St. Louis, MO; Dayton, OH; Rio Piedra, PR, and Hatboro, PA before moving to Nashua, NH in 1965. While living in NJ she worked for West Jersey Hospital for 7 years in purchasing and public relations. She left West Jersey Hospital when she married Jose Luis Berrios. In 1956, Barbara and her husband moved to Ohio where they lived for 5 years and had two sons David and Benjamin. After moving to Puerto Rico in 1961, she worked for her husband’s company, Industrial Research Corp., for 3 years and had one more son Daniel. When they moved back to the states in 1964, she worked as a temp for Manpower at several different companies in PA. Her husband accepted a position at Nashua Corp., and the family moved to Nashua, NH. Barbara continued her temp work in Nashua until her last temp job at Robwood Assoc. led to a permanent position that lasted 15 years where she worked as a receptionist, secretary, production coordinator and media director. Barbara found her next position at Bronze Craft Corp. in Nashua, after Robwood Assoc. closed, where she worked as receptionist/secretary for 13 years. Upon retirement in 1995, Barbara worked part-time as Membership Coordinator for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua for 10 years. She was a member of the UU Church of Nashua since 1974 where she held many volunteer positions such as Membership Chair, Board of Trustees, and Adult Religious Education Coordinator. She also served on the Denominational Affairs Committee and for a time she was a member of the UU District Board. Another volunteer position she greatly enjoyed was being Youth Advisor attending many District Youth Conferences in NH and VT. In her later years, she was a facilitator for a Covenant Group. Barbara also served as a facilitator for the RISE program at Rivier College since 1999. Barbara’s main passion in her later years was classic films, and she attended 2 Turner Classic Film festivals in Hollywood, CA as well as a TCM cruise to Mexico. Through the RISE classes, she endeavored to pass along her love of movies to others. Barbara was a member of a local Red Hat chapter, the Rise & Shine Red Hats. She enjoyed taking trips with her group to various historical sites. Barbara was a Fit for Life program leader through St. Joseph’s hospital for many years. She is survived by her two sons and daughter inlaw, Dave and wife Joanne of NH; Dan of CA, and Wilma of PA. She has two grandsons Josh and Nicolas. She is also survived by her two brothers and one sister, Alan and wife Kathy of WA; Jan and wife Sara Beth of NC and Linda and husband Jack of PA. The Cremation Society of NH is in charge of arrangements. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UU Church of Nashua or to the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
