David (Dave) William Hallsworth
David (Dave) William Hallsworth died peacefully at home on Monday, November 15th with family. He had
put up a brave fight against melanoma and cancer for the past two years. He was born the middle child of seven brothers and sisters on October 9, 1937. His parents were Fred Hallsworth and Mary Coppinger Hallsworth of North Andover, MA. He did his schooling in North Andover, joining the Army soon after graduation. He spent three years in the Army stationed in Germany and studied electronics. It was a good basis for coming home and being hired by Raytheon, where he remained his entire career becoming a Senior Engineer in the Missile Systems Division working a good deal of that time on the Patriot Missile Systems. He retired after 41 years at Raytheon in 1999.
When he first retired, he took courses at H & R Block, later helping people do their taxes through a volunteer organization at the Nashua Library. In his free time, he spent time playing tennis, sailing, kayaking, gardening and many, many outdoor projects. He brought engineering skills to many projects, including some unique bird houses, bird feeding stations and sprinkler systems for his garden area. He was always busy.
He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters, Fred Hallsworth, John (Jack) Hallsworth, Robert Hallsworth, Mary Ann Hallsworth Guilmette, Martha Hallsworth Matatall and James Hallsworth. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catharine Wood Hallsworth, his two sons, Matthew Lindsay Hallsworth and Peter David Hallsworth (Mary Kate Reed) and Matt’s daughter, who was a shining star in his life, Madeleine Lily Hallsworth.
Dave met his wife, Cath, at the Wedeln Ski Club in Intervale, NH. They spent many years skiing Wildcat and making life long friends from the Wedeln Ski Club and the Makasue Ski Club. Later they discovered Boothbay Harbor, where they have vacationed for the last 20 years. It became their little slice of heaven on earth.
Instead of a formal funeral and burial, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled for the spring with a private burial later in West Part Cemetery in New London, NH. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choosing. To sign an online guestbook, please visit www.chadwickfuneralservice.com.
