Susan Reid Slaughter

Oct 27, 2021

Every now and then you actually do encounter someone who radiates a glow of kindness. Susie, you were a class act. Whether walking the streets of New York as a public health nurse, whipping up a gourmet dinner, winning the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, supervising at MA Eye & Ear or earning a National Merit Scholarship; your talents are legendary. You were as good a cook as you were a friend. The world is too much smaller without you. Our circles will shrink.

Susie died at home on October 12th after battling cancer, her husband of 43 years, Jeffrey Wilson, Slaughter at her bedside. She was a longtime resident of Nashua, New Hampshire. She was 76 years old. In addition to her husband, her survivors include sisters Prudence Fryer Reid of Massachusetts and Nancy Braidwood Reid (Johnson) of Washington, her dearest of friends Mary Bock of New Hampshire and numerous Slaughter and Reid relatives.

Susan Ostrander Reid Slaughter was born in Schenectady, New York to Ralston Braidwood Reid and Harriet Fryer Reid. She attended Linton High School (Class of 1963), Connecticut College (romance languages), St. Luke’s Hospital Nursing School (R.N.) and Curry College.

Farewell faithful wife, friend, sister – you are loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 10538, Bedford, NH 03110 or call 1-800-227-2345.
