Richard T. Hodgkins

Apr 3, 2021

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that on March 23, 2021, our dad, Richard T. Hodgkins, “Richie”, passed away peacefully after a brief and courageous battle with a brain tumor. He was born in Mechanic Falls Maine, the son to his beloved Mary (Christiansen) Hodgkins and father, Archibald Hodgkins. Dad was predeceased by his first love and wife of 60 years, Patricia (Peachwall) Hodgkins. Together they raised four daughters in Portland Maine before ultimately settling in Hudson NH.

After a wonderful career working in the banking and finance industry, most notably at Beneficial Finance Corporation, a happy retirement ensued where time was split between Cape Coral FL with many years of laughter and fun with their friends at Whiskey Creek Country Club, and in Hudson NH spending time with family and lifelong friends.

His passions began and ended with his family. Some of his favorite times were spent listening to music, dancing with our mom and hanging out in the sunshine. He also loved cheering on his grandchildren during their sports games. He loved animals and was especially close to his constant companion, Precious. In his retirement years, Dad loved golfing whether with Patricia, his son-in-laws or weekly with his friends at the club. Dad was able to build and fix almost anything. He remodeled multiple homes and converted plain or tired homes into beautiful homes for our family.

A devoted father, he is survived by four daughters and their families: Michelle Smart and husband Jeffrey Smart and their four children and seven grandchildren, Lynda Eaton and husband William Eaton Jr, and their four children and 2 grandchildren and one on the way, Julie Gibbons and her four children and one grandchild and Nicole Horne and husband, Derek Horne and two children. He is also survived by his sister, Donna (Hodgkins) Thorn and brother, Robert D. Hodgkins and wife, Sandra Hodgkins.

You won’t need Rose Colored Glasses to remember his sweet smile, his terrific sense of humor, or the way he would smile when he looked at our mom. He never said a harsh word about anyone and always saw the best in people he met. He and our mother are surely dancing up a storm and are glad to be together again.

A Walk Through Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29th from 4pm to 6pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St. in Hudson, NH.
