Helen H. (Snyder) Costaras

Apr 3, 2021

Helen H. (Snyder) Costaras, age 97, passed away March 29th at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH of natural causes. She was born in Springfield, MA, a daughter of the late William Snyder and Hermine T. Snyder (Trask) on July 18, 1923. She was raised in Keene, NH and Nashua, NH where she graduated from high school before joining the Navy as a WAVE during World War II, and was stationed in Hollywood, FL. She was very proud of her service to her country.

Helen loved fashion and music. She worked for Athena’s Dress Shop and Mr. G’s in Nashua as a salesperson and then a window dresser. Her flair for design was well noted. Helen was also a loyal friend, who had relationships with people she met in her thirties and continued on until they passed. Her fondest memories were of going dancing with her friends until she met her husband, and then he was her forever partner.

Helen was married to Chris Costaras who predeceased her in death on March 30, 2017, almost four years to the day before she went to join him in Heaven. Helen and Chris both belonged to the Unitarian Church in Nashua until they went into assisted living. She missed him terribly when he passed, and carried his picture with her everywhere.

Survivors are three daughters: Leslie (Poor) Jasper and Lauren (Poor) Chmielecki of Nashua, and Alicia (Costaras) Connolly and her husband Ed of Canterbury, NH. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Cheryl Cawley and her wife Prudy of Manchester, Mark Krueger and his wife Nicole of Hudson, Kalin Carroll and her husband Brion of Nashua, Julie Miller and her husband AJ of Nashua, Michael Chmielecki and his wife Jennifer of Nashua, and Jenny Chmielecki of Nashua; also 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister Ann Phillips of Brattleboro, VT, and three nephews and one niece.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her brother William Snyder.

Zis Sweeney & St. Laurent Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements. There will be a Memorial Service for family only in the upcoming weeks, date as yet to be determined, followed by her burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
