Robert Albert Paul

NASHUA – Robert Albert Paul, 77, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.

Robert was born in Nashua on January 5, 1944, and was the son of the late Albert and Evelyn (Chevrette) Paul.

During his youth Bob resided in Nashua, NH delivering newspapers to pay for trumpet lessons. For high school, he joined his brother Dick at the Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, RI and St. Charles in Woonsocket, RI. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education/Social Science from the University of Maine class of 1972. He received his M.Ed Administration from the University of New Hampshire in 1981.

He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged in June of 1970.

Mr. Paul began his career in education at Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, RI. He also taught at Bishop Guertin High School and was an assistant principal at Nashua Catholic High School and Hollis High School. He served as Principal at Hollis Elementary, Birch Hill Elementary and Amherst Street Elementary schools. Prior to his retirement, he returned to teaching at Pennichuck Middle School.

Bob loved his family dearly. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, bowling and competing in horseshoe tournaments. He loved to play the trumpet and enjoyed many genres of music. He had a deep appreciation for French-Canadian culture, local politics, history, technology and gadgets. His rendition of the song Alouette will always be fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Past memberships include: Teamsters Union Local 633 for School Principals, National Association of Elementary School Principals, American Legion Coffee Post #3, Nashua Horseshoe League, Club National, and the Nashua Fish & Game Association.

Robert is survived by his four children, Nicole Paul Knoll and her spouse Tim of Miami, FL, Danielle Paul of Hudson, Angela DeRusha and her spouse Raymond III of Nashua; and Jonathan Paul and his spouse Clancey of Andover, MA; his eight grandchildren, Jacob DeRusha, Karis Knoll, Elizabeth De Rusha, Calvin Paul, Shannon Paul, Raymond DeRusha IV, Theo Knoll, and Margaret “Maggie” Paul. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Paul of Goffstown, Joseph Paul and his spouse Sandra of Pembrooke, NH, William Paul and his spouse Luanne of Amherst, and David Paul and his spouse Liz of Clayton, NC; as well as his former wife, Jean (Hawxwell) Paul of Nashua; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Alina (Macnamara) Paul as well as his brothers, Richard and Raymond Paul.

Relatives and friends are invited to Robert’s Funeral Service on Tuesday, January 12th at 10:00 am at Free Christian Church, 31 Elm St., Andover, MA. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment and presentation of military honors will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua at 12:00 pm. KINDLY MEET AT THE CEMETERY.
