Harish Kumar

Jul 17, 2020

Harish Kumar, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home in Nashua, NH on July 15, 2020 at age 80, surrounded by his family. Harish was born in Dalwal, India to his late father Agya Ram and late mother Raj Rani. His father was an army officer in India. He faced early tragedy in life, losing his mom at a young age. His father remarried, and he was raised by his late mother Tara Rani.

He completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology in Dehradun, India and then went on to a Masters in Biochemistry in Dundee, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1970s seeking the ‘American Dream’. He achieved it by working as a diagnostic research chemist for twenty years at Becton Dickinson and then completed his career retiring from Bayer Pharmaceuticals.

He raised his family in Fort Lee and Leonia, New Jersey. Then they moved to Timonium, Maryland and eventually to Tarrytown, New York. Upon his retirement in 2002, he lived in North Brunswick, New Jersey and then spent the last ten years of his life here in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was married to the love of his life, Usha, for over forty years. Despite some health challenges in the past few years, he always maintained that the love of his adoring wife kept him going. He took great pride in his son, Amit, who became an Allergy physician and serves the local community.

Harish enjoyed spending time with his son, wife, lovely daughter-in-law Shikha and his two adoring grandchildren Akash and Shyla. He enjoyed family traditions of dinners and grilling together on the weekends. He was always considered by many, a gentle-mannered soul. Even through tough times, he was always soft-spoken and kind. He enjoyed keeping up with national and international news and following politics. He was very well-read and always surprised us with his knowledge of all parts of the world. He frequently read books about religion and philosophy. He enjoyed spending free time watching Bollywood movies and Indian TV shows including comedy shows and dance/singing competitions. He also enjoyed shopping (searching for deals and steals) and traveling (his most recent favorite trip was to Maui, Hawaii). He had made some good friends here in New Hampshire and back in New Jersey. Over his time on earth, he achieved his dream of building a better life for his family and for that we will always be grateful. He will remain in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

He will be greatly missed by his sister Poonam Khurana and her family, the Chawla family, the Pasricha family and the Gupta family.

Thank you to the doctors at Foundation Medical Partners who took exquisite care of him over the years and to Home Health and Hospice services of Merrimack, NH who cared for him the last few months. Traditional Hindu services will be held in a private ceremony at Phaneuf funeral home in Manchester, NH and due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic will be limited to just immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
