Jun 19, 2020

Wanda K Hancock passed away peacefully at the Merrimack Hospice House after a brief illness. Wanda was a long time Hudson NH resident and for the past three years had lived at Windham Terrace in Windham, NH. She was married to Lindsay Hancock who preceded her in death in 2012. Originally born in Greensboro, NC, Lindsay’s career took them “north” as they raised a family. There were stops along the way in Maryland, Rhode Island and finally Hudson, New Hampshire.

Wanda was an accomplished singer and loved to play the piano. This talent was evident in her youth as she participated in musical events throughout North Carolina and later attended UNC- Greensboro School of Music. She was an active choir member at every church the family belonged to and was a sought-after soloist within the community. In 1973 she had a lead roll in the local theater production of The Pirates of Penzance and was recognized by the Providence Journal as on of the “bright talents” in the production. Wanda was primarily a homemaker, shuttling her children from activity to activity and was later a bookkeeper for several companies in both Warwick, RI and Hudson, NH.

Wanda also enjoyed collecting paper weights and was a long-time member of the Hudson Lions Clubs. She was honored as a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, a Granite State Fellow and served as the District Song Leader. Her dedication to the Lions organization was unwavering and she was an active member for over 25 years. She and Lindsay met many of their closest friends during this time of their life.

She is survived by her children, Richard Hancock and his wife Jill of Nashua, Cynthia Lavoie of Litchfield, and Terry Hancock and his wife Cenith of Temecula, CA. Brothers Ronald Kidd and his wife of London, Kentucky and Ronald Kidd and his wife Linda who live in Virginia. Grandchildren include Andrew Lavoie, Amy Hinckley, David Lavoie, Eric Lavoie, Douglas Hancock, William Hinkle, Megan Hancock and Katelyn Hancock. Great grandchildren include Lena, Stahr, Kenny, TJ and Declan Hinckley, William Hinkle Jr and Benjamin Hinkle, and Myka Hancock.

Everyone will miss Wanda and will be forever thankful of the staff at Windham Terrace for the care she received during the final years of her life. The family will plan a memorial service at a later date. Donations in Wanda’s memory can be made to the Hudson Lion’s Club, P O Box 3, Hudson NH 03051.
