Cynthia A. White

May 16, 2020

Cynthia Ann White, age 73, died at home surrounded by family after a period of declining health on May 14, 2020. Cynthia was born in Nashua on March 25, 1947, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Alva (Benjamin) Lund. She was raised and educated in Hollis,NH and was a member of the Class of 1965. She spent her childhood working on local farms picking vegetables, swimming and dancing at Wallace’s Grove. She was an accomplished girl scout, talented artist, and sought-after babysitter. She especially loved riding her horse, Guy Mack.

She moved to Nashua in 1965, married and had three children, Daniel, Heather and Shelley. In 1976 she formed Diversified Domestics Inc., a commercial and residential cleaning company which had contracts with William P. Korsak’s development, Cannongate III, Digital Equipment Corporation and Wang Laboratories. In the late 80’s the focus shifted to residential accounts. This continued into the early 90’s when one of her long term clients, the late Kenwood Jones, founder of Ken Jones Ski Mart hired her for respite care and later as a primary caregiver for his spouse Jay until her death in 1997. This experience led her to attend nursing school. She graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing, Class of 2000 with high honors and was employed by Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH until her retirement. She volunteered for many years with the Share the Harvest program in Hollis, NH.

Cynthia enjoyed tending her bird feeders, gardening, the outdoors, and took her kids camping annually in North Conway, NH and Cape Neddick, ME. Many summer trips were taken to the beaches in Ogunquit, ME. She loved singing at the Front Porch piano bar. She loved disco dancing at Manor IV and her favorite dress from the era still hangs in her closet. She had a great appreciation for all of God’s creatures and enjoyed frequent trips to Benson’s Wild Animal Farm with her children.

Cynthia’s real passion was entertaining. She loved to host family holidays and parties and often lamented that she missed her calling as a caterer. She plated dinners for her kids in what came to be known as “Sarg boats”. She earned the nickname “Sarg” by not taking any grief from the many teenagers who frequented the house over the years. Cynthia loved to travel and visited New York, Rhode Island, California, Florida, Washington DC, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. The place she loved most of all was Kauai, Hawaii, where she visited most recently in 2015 on a family trip. For her 70th birthday she took a cruise to the Bahamas.

She had a great sense of humor and despite a series of health setbacks, never lost her ability to laugh and remain optmistic. She was predeceased by her son Daniel in 1993, and brother Richard Lund in 2015. She is survived by her daughter Heather (White) Lund and her husband James of Kittery ME, her daughter, Shelley White and her fiance, Philip Fortier of Nashua and her beloved granddaughter Kayla Pearl who called her “Nanue”. She also leaves behind a sister, Marcia White of Nashua and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
