Dr. Barbara Dawson

Oct 7, 2019

Dr. Dawson recently passed away in her home in Nashua. She was a well respected psychologist who worked with patients at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord as well with clients at the Counseling Center of Nashua. Barbara was born in Philadelphia, PA and after a brief career as a biochemist, she realized that her calling and passion was not in a laboratory. Her natural compassion led her to study psychology at Widener University where she earned her doctorate. After practicing in the Philadelphia area for several years, she moved to Nashua, a city she loved. She was a skillful and expert practitioner in diagnostic testing and treatment. The real key to her success though was her ability to engage positively with others in a open and caring manner. Compassion was always her guiding value, it defined who she was. Barbara’s colleagues remember her as generous with her knowledge and time, fierce in her advocacy for her patients and supportive of all, especially new hires whom she mentored. Anyone who knew Barbara personally, knew that she loved Ireland and all things Irish. She was a Celt at heart. So let us remember her, her work and her spirit with this Irish Blessing: “May the blessing of light be with you light outside and light within. May sunlight shine upon you and warm your heart ’til it glows like a great peat fire so that the stranger may come and warm himself by it. May the earth rest so lightly over you that your spirit may be out from under it quickly, and up, and off, and on its way to God. Barbara truly made a difference in our world especially the world of mental health. Should you care to make a donation in her memory, please consider the NAMI NH (National Alliance on Mental Illness, New Hampshire (https://www.naminh.org) or the The Humane Society for Greater Nashua (http://www.hsfn.org). She was an avid cat lover! To leave an online condolence, story, or message please visit www.ANCTIL-ROCHETTE.com
