Claire Louise Benoit

NASHUA – Claire Louise (Berube) Benoit, 87, died peacefully Wednesday morning, July 17, 2019 at the Community Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Benoit who she married on May 25, 1957.

A Nashua native, Claire was the youngest of five daughters of Pierre and Maire Louise (Dionne) Berube. She was born on September 11, 1931 in Nashua and was educated in local schools, graduated from St. Aloysius High School, Class of 1950. She also attended Our Lady of the Angels Academy in St. Laurent, Montreal P.Q.

An active member of the St. Louis de Gonzague Parish, Claire served on the Parish Council. The funeral luncheon committee and was a teller at church. In earlier years she was a den mother for Cub Pack 255, a Brownie Leader, and an IR representative to the Merrimack Valley Girl Scout Council. She was also a member and secretary with the St. Louis Ladies Guild.

Claire worked for many years for Scott Jewelry Company as a bookkeeper. She also worked and retired from J.C.Penny as Human Resource Supervisor. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Crown Hill Grocery for a number of years.

Claire was predeceased by her brother Sylvio Berube and her three sisters, Theresa Guilbeault, Beatrice Berube, and Jeannette Berube.

She is survived by her son Joseph Benoit and his wife Christine Young of Manchester, NH and her daughter Louise McHugh and her husband Robert McHugh of Nashua; her sister, Mrs. Pierrette Berube of Hudson and many nieces and nephews.

At her request, calling hours were omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on FRIDAY, July 26th at 10 AM in St. Louis de Gonzague Church, 48 W. Hollis Street, Nashua. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claire’s name to Home, Health, and Hospice, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 or to the Nashua Humane Society, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064.
