Patricia ‘Paddy’ Sabourin

Patricia “Paddy” Sabourin of Hollis, N.H. passed away Friday evening, March 9, 2019 with her husband and daughter at her side after a brief and sudden illness.

Pat was born in Rutland, VT on March 6, 1928 to Christine Whitman and James E. Hughes. After graduating from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, she earned her R.N. at the Rutland Hospital School of Nursing, with training in pediatrics in Montreal, Quebec and psychiatry in Concord, N.H. Her career in nursing began at the Rutland Hospital as an Operating Room nurse.

On June 20, 1953, she married Charles E. Sabourin, also of Rutland, who had just completed his B.S. in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. They had three children: Mary Pat, who married Charles Fister, (deceased), Gerard, who married Judy Sipley, and Michelle who married John Rogers. June 20, 2019 would have marked the celebration of their 67th anniversary.

Pat was on the nursing staff of Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and the Catholic Medical Center. She was an active member of the Parish of the Resurrection and the Anna Keyes chapter of the D.A.R. She enjoyed traveling, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and most especially her Irish heritage. Other pastimes included quilting, reading novels, presidential biographies and poetry.

What she enjoyed above all else was spending time with her five grandchildren: Rebecca Van De Weert, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Michael Sabourin, Brigi Fister, as well as her five great-grandchildren: Daniella, Jacob, Juliette and Lindsey Van De Weert, and Finley Laferriere-Hall. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by nieces and nephews from upstate New York, and her sister-in-law Jane Kendall of Rutland, VT.

A funeral Mass will be offered at the Parish of the Resurrection in Nashua, NH on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 am. A wake will precede the Mass at 10:00 am in the gathering place at the Church. A reception will follow the Mass downstairs in the Parish Hall.
