David A. Shattuck

May 30, 2018

David Allen Shattuck passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on May 26, 2018 at the age of 68.

David grew up in Pepperell, the son of Suzanne Whitney Shattuck of Nashua, NH and the late Leon R. Shattuck. He was educated in the Pepperell school system and graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton. He also attended Wentworth Institute in Boston.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail (Wright) Shattuck and their children Jacob Shattuck of Nashua, and Heather MacCoy, wife of Bentley, of Pepperell. He cherished his granddaughters, Gwenyth MacCoy and Samantha MacCoy, and step-granddaughter, Amelia MacCoy, who were the joy of his life. He had a brother, Dennison Shattuck, of England, and many cousins and extended family as well.

David ran a billing service for many years, as well as owning Shattuck Printing and IronWoods Driving Range. He served as Cubmaster and helped coach youth soccer and girls’ basketball. He also served the town by filling a vacancy on the Pepperell Planning Board.

Basketball was his favorite sport to play and he even helped found the over 30’s and over 40’s basketball groups in town. The Celtics and the Patriots were his favorite sports teams to watch but the Red Sox also held a place in his heart. In later years, he enjoyed target shooting very much.

His family was the most important thing in the world to him, as everyone who knew him can attest. In the past 7 weeks, while staying at the Community Hospice House, he really enjoyed ice cream more than any other food. He was so well cared for there, that his enjoyment of life was extended so that he could have many, very meaningful visits with family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main Street, Pepperell, MA. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, June 2 at the funeral home. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend. For those who wish, contributions to Home Health and Hospice Care, Attn: Development, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 would be greatly appreciated. Please see www.mcgaffiganfuneral.com
