John Perry Griffith

Mar 11, 2018

John Perry Griffith, 78, formerly of Wilton, New Hampshire, passed away among family and friends February 9th, 2018, having battled cancer for 11 years.

John was born May 6th, 1939, in Nashua, New Hampshire to New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice Robert Frederick Griffith and Mabel Brown. He attended Nashua High School, and then the University of New Hampshire for his Bachelor’s, before serving honorably in the Army and achieving the rank of Captain. After his military service, he followed in his father’s footsteps and attended Boston University for his Juris Doctorate. He worked for the firm of his father’s former partners, Hamblett and Kerrigan, then his own private practice. Before retiring, John was a well admired and esteemed lawyer among the legal community, whose career exuded the best elements of the legal profession. He will be remembered by colleagues and clients for his characteristic tenacity and advocacy for his clients, never willing to back down from a challenge. He greatly enjoyed spending time in Cape Cod with his friend Charles DeGrandpre, both avid music lovers. He also enjoyed reading in his spare time, credited to his father, a passion he passed on to his sons.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Woodward, of Wilton, NH, with whom he enjoyed incredible experiences, joy, and love, and his children, Brok and Heath Griffith, Sebastian, Nicolina, and Barbara Lee Valente, and his granddaughters Tatiana and Natalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mabel.

Those who wish to express their condolences and wishes, please do so by donating blood. Johns gratitude to all those who had donated blood to him over the years was considered by him to be the precious “gift of life.”
