Johanna Laramie, RN

Johanna (Murphy) Laramie, 82, died January 19th, 2017 at Waterhouse Ridge Memory Care in Portland, OR after complications from a stroke suffered January 2nd. She passed away peacefully in the presence of love, grace, and songs from the ould sod.

She was Born August 31, 1934 in Co. Limerick, Ireland, and raised on a farm by her parents the late Patrick Murphy and Katherine O’Leary. Johanna attended nursing school in England in 1960 and started her career as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Boston in 1963. She was married to the late John Louis Laramie, of Concord, NH in 1966 and they raised their two boys in Nashua, NH. She worked the majority of her career for St. Joseph Hospital, in particular at the Emergency Room clinic in Merrimack, NH.

She was a great nurse and nursing wasn’t just her work, it was her joy in connecting with people. She loved to laugh, bask in the sun, and burst into song. She especially loved to sing the oldest of Irish Songs. She dearly loved to watch her cherished granddaughter Katie sing and step dance to traditional Irish Ceílí music.

Johanna is survived by her two sons; John, with his wife Lisa and their daughter Katie of Nashua, NH, and Jason with his long-time partner, Angie Spring of Portland, OR. Her surviving Irish siblings are her sister Nancy O’Shaugnessy of London, England and twin brothers Tom and Joe Murphy of London England and Co. Limerick, Ireland, respectively.

A Wake service will be held at The Hunt Memorial Library, Friday, February 3rd from 5pm to 10pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Church, Saturday, February 4th at 10am. The burial will be at Concord Calvary Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. A reception to conclude the services will be back at The Hunt Memorial Library at 2pm, Saturday, February 4th.
