Shuyung Lai

Shuyung Lai, 86, of Nashua and formerly of Hong Kong, China, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.

He was born January 15, 1930, in Canton, China, son of the late Wah Hing Lai and Jhang Qiao (Ku) Lai.

Shuyung was the husband of Sun Mui (Wong) Lai of Nashua.

Shuyung moved to the United States in 1989, following the Tiananmen Square protests, in order to live closer to his children. While living in Hong Kong, he was known as the local farmer who was always welcoming his neighbors. During difficult times, whether it was sheltering people from typhoons or sharing his crops so that others had something to eat, he truly loved people. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his warm-hearted gestures and his straightforward, friendly personality.

Besides his loving wife, Sun Mai, his family includes four sons, Samson Lai and his wife Amy of Shanghai, Steve Lai and his wife Alice of Braintree, MA, Lawrence Lai and his wife Rebecca of Nashua, Brian Lai and his wife Iris of Los Angeles, CA; four daughters, Kwai Tai Yeung and her husband Chi Kwong Yeung of Nashua, Sannie Yau and her husband Kwok On Yau of Nashua, Stella Yeung of Hong Kong, Winnie Wan and her husband Dennis Wan of Manchester; as well as 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 19th from 5pm-8pm in THE DUMONT-SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 50 FERRY ST. IN HUDSON. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday in Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., in Newton, MA. Those choosing to attend the cemetery service and would like to follow in procession, may meet at the funeral home at 8:45am.
