Virginia Smith Harvey Dawson
Ginny Dawson (Virginia Smith Harvey Dawson), 65, of Londonderry NH and Monrovia CA, died August 4, 2016 in CA. She leaves her husband of 13 years, Timothy Haven Dawson, her children Karen Harvey Jarret, Sean Jarret, and Jenny Dawson, her granddaughter Liliana Marie Jarrett, two sisters, two brothers, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dr. Harvey was born and grew up in Pennsylvania, graduated from Smith College in 1972, and earned her Ph.D. in Educational/School Psychology from Indiana University in 1979. She worked 18 years as a school psychologist in Hammond, Indiana and Nashua, New Hampshire, after which she was a professor and administrator at University of Massachusetts Boston for 20 years. She retired with emeritus status in 2013. She served on a number of national school psychology committees, published more than 100 articles and chapters, and was co-author of three books, including Fostering Independent Learning and Professional Development and Supervision of School Psychologists. In 2014, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Massachusetts School Psychology Association.
Ginny had a lifelong passion for singing and sang in many different choirs, most recently with the Londonderry (NH) United Methodist Church and the San Gabriel Valley (CA) Community Choral Company. In retirement she also enjoyed writing fiction and a family history.
A memorial service will be held at the Londonderry United Methodist Church (NH), 258 Mammoth Road on September 10, 2016, at 2pm.
