Nathaniel Brooks

Jan 5, 2016

Nathaniel Brooks, known by all for his warm heart and welcoming smile, died January 1, 2016 at the age of 97. He loved his family beyond measure, cherished his friendships and was a tireless worker for peace and justice throughout all his long life.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY and married Jeannette Levine in 1947. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and later in life got his Masters in Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit. After his military service in WW II, he worked at a variety of jobs including as a journeyman tool and die maker. Later, with his social work background, Nathaniel made significant contributions nationally in promoting services for senior citizens. He then moved on to become an executive in an organization devoted to improving the lives of the people of Detroit.

In all facets of his life, Nathaniel was both a hard worker and an inspiring leader. His sharp mind, which he maintained to the end, served him in every challenge he undertook. Nathaniel dedicated his life to making the world a better place for all.

Nathaniel is survived by his wife Jeannette; children Daniel (Barbara), Rachel (Steve) and Emily (Charles); grandchildren Angela, Katie, Sarah and Anna; and great-grandchildren Sienna and Alexis, Lucca and Jude, Alex and Zachary.

We will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
