Harold Eckmann

Harold A. Eckmann, 93, of Blackstone, VA, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Morgan Eckmann. Mr. Eckmann is survived by one son, J. Scott Eckmann; and daughter-in-law, Leslie; one daughter, Leigh Barnard; and son-in-law, Kevin; a sister-in-law, Eileen; six grandchildren, Michael, Kristen, Ann Morgan, Lorraine, Paul and Mary Claire; three great-grandchildren, Grace, John, and Meghan; and two nieces, Kathleen Sexton and Karen Robinson. Mr. Eckmann served in the U.S. Navy. Following his naval career, he entered the insurance business and retired as Chairman and CEO of the Atlantic Mutual Companies. During his business career, he served on the boards of various industrial, financial and communication companies and government entities, as well as nonprofit organizations. He was a Knight of Malta of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in the United States. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 1 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2015, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 709 Buffalo Street, Farmville, VA 23901.
