Calvin Ernest Wilson
Calvin Ernest Wilson, 57 of Ramrod Key, Florida. Passed away at his home of a heart attack, at his home.
Calvin was a partner and worked at the family business Wilson Farm of Massachusetts and N.H until his retirement in 2010. Born in Lexington Massachusetts December 13, 1958. Beloved son of Donald and Betty Wilson of Lexington, Massachusetts and husband of Gabrielle Nahr Wilson of Florida.
Graduated from Lexington High School in 1976. A member of the New England Growers receiving numerous awards from the Mass Horticultural Society for his work over the years at the New England Flower Show. Participated in several State Fairs in N.H and Ma. Earning several Blue Ribbon awards for his produce and flowers. A member of the Associated Grocers Association, the B.B.B. the N.H. Farm Bureau, and numerous other organizations. Supported town community activities baseball, softball, soccer etc.
Calvin moved to Litchfield in mid-1980 and after his family purchased what is known as the Ford Barn and carriage shed, moved and remodeled the buildings opening what is now known as Wilson Farm Stand of N.H.
Calvin farmed as well as operated the farm stand, taking his farm fresh produce to the market in Boston and to his Lexington Ma farm just as his ancestors did, as well as buying quality fresh produce from market and bringing it back to the N.H. farm stand for his customers. He offered and delivered farm fresh produce to several restaurants in the area giving restaurants a chance to serve fresh local produce to their customers. Along with U.N.H Extension hosted several Twilight meetings at the farm in N.H. He had a great talent in retail, a flair for displays. Knowing what customers wanted in a farm stand.
Calvin had a great love for animals, customers in N.H. still remember the Belgian horses and Llamas as well as the many goats, chickens, peacocks and cows. Calvin traveled to many States and Countries working with different businesses and farms always looking for better products and ideas for both Farm Stands.
Moving back to Lexington in the mid 1990’s to work at the other farm there, staying close to the daily operations of the N.H. farm stand.
After his retirement he moved to Florida where he used his other skills and passions, woodworking. There he made furniture, picture frames, beautiful yard and garden art.
Besides his wife and parents he is survived by his son Timothy of Boston, daughters Olivia of Denver Colorado and Renee of Washington D.C. A step daughter Zulay of Miami, Florida. A brother James Wilson of Lexington. Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Cousins.
