Larry A. Carpenter
Larry Andrew Carpenter, 63, of Hudson, husband of Sandra L. (Moore) Carpenter, died Wednesday afternoon, April 16, 2014 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry after a long illness.
A son of the late John A. and Fay (Plymale) Carpenter, he was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on March 7, 1951. Larry grew up in New Haven, West Virginia, and was a graduate of Wahama High School Class of 1969. A short time after his graduation, Mr. Carpenter enlisted in the Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Larry continued his education at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Larry moved to New Hampshire in the early 1980s and resided in Merrimack and Nashua for a time before relocating to Hudson where he has made his home for the past 23 years. An electrical engineer, Mr. Carpenter had been employed with the former Sanders Associates, Inc. and their successors, Lockheed-Martin and BAE Systems for over 30 years.
In his leisure time, Larry enjoyed motorcycles and Country/Western dancing. He held membership in Grace Fellowship Church of Nashua where he had been active as a Youth Leader. Larry was also very involved in Scouting with his “boys” and was a member of the American Legion Post 48 of Hudson.
Besides his loving wife “Sandi,” members of the family include his four children, Travis A. Carpenter and his wife Dutchin of Glen Burnie, MD, Chad A. Carpenter of New Haven, WV, Crystal L. Ndyaija and her husband Joshua of Burlington, MA and Ryan K. Carpenter of Hudson; four grandchildren, Trace and Seth Carpenter, Faith Immanuel and Brianna Coleman; a sister, Connie J. Carpenter of Milton, WV; a brother, Steve T. Carpenter and his wife Lesa of New Haven, WV; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Carpenter.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, April 21st from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by his funeral service in the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Paul R. Berube, Pastor of Grace Fellowship Church will officiate. Friends are invited to attend. Military Honors and Interment will take place at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
