Catherine (Kitty) Sheehy

Catherine (Kitty) Sheehy, age 91 of Norwalk, the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Sheehy, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1922 in the village of Rathmore, Kerry County, Ireland. Kitty and her late husband, Mike were longtime residents of Norwalk where they raised their four children. In subsequent years, they lived for periods in Wilton, CT, Falmouth, MA, St. Petersburg, FL and Nashua, NH.

Her passions were her family, reading, dancing and dining out. She particularly relished hoisting the occasional martini with her daughters, daughter-in-laws and nieces. She possessed a keen Gaelic wit and sustained a sardonic humor even through the darkest days. Kitty loved going out on the town and never lost her infatuation with New York City where she lived for several years during the War, and where she met her husband, a highly decorated airman of the Pacific campaign.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Joan Sheehy of Westport; her son, Michael K. Sheehy and his wife, MaryGaye Grizwin of Hollis, NH; her cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Bolan of San Diego, CA, Danielle DeLapp of Bridgeport, CT; Samantha Sheehy of Arlington, MA, Shannon DiGiovani of Leominster, MA, Eliot DeLapp of Stratford, CT and Sarah Moeckel of Concord, NH. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Nora and Joan and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, she was predeceased by her two children, Daniel Sheehy and Kathleen DeLapp.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial directly at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis Cemetery in Nashua, NH. Friends may greet her family on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center.
