Gregory Cyr

Jan 23, 2013

Gregory Lawrence Cyr, 22, of Portsmouth, died Monday, January 21st.

Greg was the loving son of Mike and Faith (Sheldon) Cyr of Milford. He was born in Nashua on March 5, 1990. Greg passed away at The Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth after a long and challenging life due to being diagnosed with meningoencephalitis at three weeks of age.

While he was largely unable to communicate, it was always clear that Greg loved sports, visits from family and listening to music. And he could always be counted on to flash a beaming smile when he heard his mother’s laugh.

Due to Greg’s disabilities, he lived the bulk of his childhood at Cedarcrest in Keene, N.H. before moving to Portsmouth, where he lived for the past six years. He also lived in South Carolina and at The McGuire Memorial Home in New Brighton, Pa.

Surviving Gregory are his parents, Mike and Faith (Sheldon) Cyr of Milford; his older brother, Shawn Cyr, Shawn’s fiancee, Cassie Barber, and their son, Cameron, (Greg’s 2-year-old nephew) of Keene; and his younger brother Kevin Cyr of Durham.

In addition to his immediate family, Greg is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, mostly in the Ogdensburg, N.Y., area, where Faith grew up. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Franklyn and Kathleen Sheldon of Lisbon, N.Y.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 3 p.m. in The Milford United Methodist Church, 327 North River Road, Milford. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Greg’s memory to: Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, 91 Maple Avenue, Keene, NH 03431 or The Edgewood Centre, 928 South Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements are in care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford. To share a memory, or offer a condolence, visit www.smith-heald.com.
