Edgar ‘Bud’ Coy Austen

On June 20, 2012, Edgar “Bud” Coy Austen, husband for 60 years of Betsy Arthur Austen, died in Meriden, Connecticut. For the past three years he was a resident of Ashlar Village in Wallingford, Connecticut. He was born March 21, 1926 in Mahwah, New Jersey, to Edgar C. and Aimee Hargreaves Austen. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater in Luzon and the southern Philippines with the 80th Field Artillery Battalion as a Sergeant Major. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from New York University. After a long career in the banking industry, he retired in 1991 from the Amoskeag Bank in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was a highly respected trust officer. While in Manchester, Bud was active with the Kiwanis, and served on the Board of Trustees of Webster House, a transitional living facility for troubled teenagers. He and his wife Betsy lived in Amherst, New Hampshire, for 35 years, where they were both active members of the Congregational Church. Bud enjoyed restoring old houses, collecting toy cars, and spending time with his family. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Barbara Austen and her husband Steve Rice, son Douglas Austen and his wife Kathleen, son Scott Austen and his wife Lisa, and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Amherst Congregational Church, 11 Church Street, Amherst, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Webster House (135 Webster St. Manchester, NH 03104), Doctors without Borders, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
