Gladys Marie Addiss

NEW IPSWICH – Gladys Marie Addiss, 87, of New Ipswich, died at the Monadnock Community Hospital June 23, 2012 in Peterborough, New Hampshire.

Gladys was born in Long Island, NY, April 14, 1925 the daughter of Marie Louise (Nelson) and Jorgen Torkildsen. Gladys worked for the Harborfields School District in Greenlawn, NY for 17 years. She moved to New Ipswich, NH from Long Island, NY where they resided the last 23 years.

Mrs. Addiss loved her family and found great joy in raising her children. She enjoyed camping out doors and traveling. She and her husband visited many parts of the country in thieir mobile camper including Alaska twice.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard E. Addiss of New Ipswich; daughter Laura Jean and her husband Erwin Kann of Wilton, NH., four sons, William R. Addiss of Long Island, NY., David Addiss of Port Jefferson Station, NY., Robert Addiss of Merrimack, NH., and Daniel Addiss of Las Vegas, NV as well as thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Florence Brundage of Painesville, OH. and her brother Robert Torkildsen of Rocky Point, MA.

Calling hours were held Wednesday June 27, 2012 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 101 New York 25A, Miller Place, Long Island, New York . The burial followed on Thursday June 28, 2012 in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island, New York.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Gladys’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association New Hampshire branch, 5 Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 201, Bedford, NH 03110.
