Wendell A. Poole

Wendell A. Poole of Hudson, NH, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 10, 1931 in Danvers, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Wendell E. and Mary Katherine (Driscoll) Poole. Wendell was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Poole Douglas. He grew up on Putnam Street in Danvers, MA where he attended and graduated from St. Johns Prep. Wendell enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Knoxville, TN where he met and married his wife Norma. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on July 22nd.

In 1962, Wendell graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in engineering and worked for the government Defense Contract Administrations DCAS at Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH. While there, he was asked to work on the NASA Space Program where he received a letter of recognition and medal made from the melted parts of the space program for his many contributions to the program. Mr. Poole was transferred by the government to Kollsman Instruments where he was head of DCAS.

Wendell was an amazing and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and really loved his great-grandchildren. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed trips to North Conway and Portsmouth, NH. He was a member of the Elks where he enjoyed playing golf with the golf league and played cards. Wendell enjoyed playing the guitar, loved to tinker in his workshop; and also loved to garden and fish with his son Ken.

Wendell is survived by his loving wife Norma; daughter Linda Tripodi of Nashua; sons Steve Poole and Ken Poole with Sharon Lombard of Nashua; and daughter Terry Poole of Litchfield; his five grandchildren, Christine Fernandez, Andrew Calabrese, Chelsea Candiano, Felicia Poole and Halie Marineau; and six great-grandchildren.

A private service for the family was held in the Farwell Funeral Home. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice House, c/o Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 so that in the future people may benefit from the comfortable and serene accommodations of those caring for their loved ones.
