Diana Brest
Diana Brest, age 95, died on September 23, 2011 at Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua. She was born on November 6, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest of five children of Gershon and Annie Zevin.
Diana graduated from Roxbury High School in 1931 and attended business school before taking a job in Boston’s North End for a wholesale Italian Food Company, where she worked for many years.
In 1950 she married Charles Brest and moved to Nashua where she remained for the rest of her life, punctuated by 20 years as a snowbird, spending winters in Plantation, Florida.
In Nashua, she worked for Nashua Wholesale Grocers and later Stellos Electric as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of Temple Beth Abraham and its Sisterhood for over 60 years, a life-time member of Hadassah, and chairman of Trees for Israel Project for many years. She was also named Woman of the Year for Hadassah. In her younger years she was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed playing bridge and Mahjong.
Diana was a loving mother to her son Samuel Brest; daughter, Anita Platt; daughter-in-law, Sarah Cohen Brest; and son-in-law, Stephen Platt. She doted on her grandchildren, Aviv, Ariel, and Elan Brest, Benjamin Platt, and step-granddaughter, Chandra Platt. May her memory be a blessing.
SERVICES: Funeral Service will be held at Temple Beth Abraham, 4 Raymond Street in Nashua, today (Sunday, September 25, 2011) at 4pm. Interment will follow at Beth Abraham Cemetery in Nashua. Memorial week will be observed at her son Samuel’s home, 35 Woodland Drive, Nashua, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with minyanim each evening at 7:30pm. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution in Diana’s name to Temple Beth Abraham, 4 Raymond Street, Nashua, NH 03064.
