Michael Vasco

BRISTOL – Michael Vasco, 78, died Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at Franklin Regional Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born in Nyack, NY, the son of Louis and Esther (Longhine) Vasco. He was raised in New York and joined the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict in Germany. After his return from duty, he met and married Joan (Guerette). They lived in New York for a short time before moving to Merrimack, NH in 1960.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Vasco worked for Cal Com in Hudson. He was active as a lifelong member of the Merrimack Memorial Post 98 American Legion and a charter and life member of Post 8641 VFW also in Merrimack.

In 1995, the family moved to Bristol. Michael was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7073 of Our Lady of Grace and active with the Wilkins-Smith Post 1 American Legion in Laconia.

In his free time, Michael enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts Explorer Post in Merrimack and later enjoyed doing leather crafts and making military models of planes and boats. He also enjoyed studying military history.

Family members include his wife, Joan (Guerette) Vasco of Bristol: sons and daughters-in-law: Louis J. (Lisa) Vasco of Brentwood, CA; Michael F. (Tamey) Vasco of Bridgewater; Antonio R (Jennifer) Vasco of Williamsburg, VA; and five grandchildren.

Services – Friends and family may call Friday, August 5, 2011 from 4-8pm at the Emmons Funeral Home, 115 South Main St., Bristol, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace of Holy Trinity Parish, 2 West Shore Road, Bristol, NH. Burial will follow with military honors in Homeland Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Wilkins-Smith Post 1 American Legion, 849 North Main St, Laconia, NH 03246; Merrimack Memorial Post 98 American Legion, 43 Baboosic Lake, Merrimack, NH 03054; Post 8641 VFW Merrimack, PO Box 157, Merrimack, NH 03054; or the National Kidney Foundation, 11 Vanderbilt Ave., Suite 105, Norwood, MA 02062.
