Stanley E. Bogdan

Apr 3, 2011

Stanley E. Bogdan, 92, died peacefully on March 27, 2011, attended by his son Stephen and daughter-in-law Sandra. His passing was preceded by his wife Phyllis, son Stanley Edward Jr., a granddaughter Debra Doughty, brothers John and Benjamin and a sister Mary.

Born to immigrant parents, Stanislaus and Sophia, Stanley was a lifelong resident of Nashua where he created his famed S.E. Bogdan fly fishing reels with his son Stephen. Internationally acclaimed by the sporting community as the gold standard, a 4 year waiting period is required to own a totally handmade Bogdan reel. Noted owners include the Duke of Wellington, President Carter, Ted Williams and musicians Benny Goodman and Eric Clapton as well as many moguls of business and finance. The US State Department often requests them as gifts for visiting dignitaries. Beautiful, as well as functional, they are in the collections of many sporting museums as well as the Smithsonian.

Long a champion of the Atlantic salmon, Stanley was a charter member of the Atlantic Salmon Federation, past trustee of the American Museum of Fly Fishing and member of the Anglers Club of New York. A recent biography entitled “BOGDAN” chronicles his life achievements in detail, as will a to be released film by Canadian filmmaker, Kathryn Maroun. Forbes magazine did a feature article on Stanley E. Bogdan in 2010.

He leaves a son, Stephen and wife Sandra Bogdan of New Ipswich, NH and daughter, Cheryl and husband Dr. Carl Doughty of Palm Bay, FL; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
