Elizabeth P. Brocklebank

Mar 15, 2010

Peterborough, New Hampshire – Elizabeth Pike Brocklebank, 91, died on March 13, 2010, at Summerhill.

Mrs. Brocklebank was born in Pepperell, Massachusetts, on August 1, 1918, the daughter of Florence (White) and Archibald Pike. Upon graduating from Pepperell High School, she continued her education at and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. She went on to work as executive secretary for the chairman of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and later for the chairman of the board of Trustees of Massachusetts Trust (now Massachusetts Financial Services). Her experience in investments learned in these two positions became a lifelong passion. She spent four years working for Kenyon B. Ely in his investment counseling business in Peterborough and later as legal secretary in probate for the Blodgett & Makechnie law firm at which time she moved to Peterborough.

Betty lived for several years in Boston, then moved to Hollis, New Hampshire, when she married Daniel Brocklebank.

She was a dedicated volunteer who gave many hours as a trustee of White Pines College (now Chester College of New England) and later as a trustee of the White Pines College Foundation. She was also an active member of the Friends of the Peterborough Town Library, serving for many years as treasurer.

Betty enjoyed studying and working with investments, gardening, reading, playing Scrabble and cribbage with friends; trips to England, Ireland, France, Norway, and Switzerland; and yearly jaunts to Tanglewood. She will be sorely missed by her numerous friends for her spunk and sense of humor which touched all in her presence.

Her husband died in 1972. She is survived by two nephews and their wives, Robert and Carol Pike of Loudon, New Hampshire, and Kenneth and Robin Pike of Nashua, New Hampshire; a grandniece, Meredith Pike of Manchester, New Hampshire; her stepdaughter, Eleanor Beaudette of Stow, Massachusetts, and three step-grandsons, Daniel Beaudette of Stow, Massachusetts, Jeffrey Beaudette of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and Douglas Beaudette of Gilbert, Arkansas. Her brother, Richard, died earlier.

A memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the Union Congregational Church, Concord Street, Peterborough. Reverend Polly Shamy, pastor, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations, if one wishes, may be made to the Dunstable Rural Land Trust, 401 Hollis Street, Dunstable, MA 01827; or to Monadnock Community Hospital, Philanthropy Office, 452 Old Street Road, Peterborough, NH 03458.
