By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Dec 5, 2021

New World gas station Chelmsford, Mass

CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts — Police in the Chelmsford area are on the lookout for a young man dressed in all black who walked in to the New World gas station at 273 Littleton Road, allegedly brandished a machete and demanded cash from the clerk, according to police Chief James Spinney.

Officers were called to the station at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and upon arrival spoke with the clerk, who told them that a man in his late teens or early 20s approached him with the machete in his hand and demanded he take money from the cash register and put it into a grocery bag, Spinney said.

The clerk told police he complied with the man’s orders, and the man left the store on foot moments later with an undisclosed amount of cash in the bag.

The man, wearing a black mask, black sweatshirt and black sweatpants, ran across the road to a parking lot at 270 Littleton Road and headed toward a black sedan.

The clerk then watched the sedan drive off, heading toward the center of town.

Nobody else was in the store when the incident occurred, Spinney said, adding that no injuries were reported.

Police investigators are reviewing video camera footage of the incident, and Spinney is asking anyone who may have any additional information to contact the department at 978-256-2521.
