Rhode Island’s average per-gallon gas price up 2 cents

By Staff | Feb 2, 2021

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The average cost of gasoline in Rhode Island continues to creep up, rising 2 cents in the past week to $2.39 per gallon, AAA Northeast said Monday.

That price is 18 cents higher than a month ago, but still 14 cents lower than the per-gallon average one year ago.

Rhode Island’s average price is 3 cents lower than the national average.

“For nearly a year, motorists have been saving, compared to the previous year, when filling up their gas tanks,” AAA spokesperson Lloyd Albert said in a statement. “While prices locally are still cheaper than this time in 2020, that extra pocket change is quickly going to dwindle thanks to rising crude oil prices that have made for more expensive pump prices.”

Rhode Island’s average price is about the same as in Massachusetts, but much lower than in Connecticut per-gallon average of $2.48.
