PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Animal rights activists protesting outside a poultry shop in Providence threw fake blood and used pepper spray on workers, police said.

A group of about a dozen protesters gathered outside Antonelli Poultry Co. on Saturday and wrote phrases such as “Don’t hurt animals for anything” in chalk outside the store, police said, according to the Providence Journal. Workers confronted the activists and the protesters deployed pepper spray at them before fleeing, police said.

Police said they are looking for the protesters, who could face assault charges.
