Democratic U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, one of President Donald Trump’s harshest critics in Congress, has won reelection in Rhode Island.

Cicilline cruised to a sixth term after easily defeating a pair of independent challengers. The 59-year-old Cicilline, who had no Republican opponent in September’s primary, defeated independents Frederick Wysocki and Jeffrey Lemire.

Cicilline has helped lead messaging efforts for his party in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2018, when he was elected chairman of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. He also chairs the House antitrust subcommittee.

Cicilline, of Providence, represents the 1st Congressional District covering the easternmost part of Rhode Island.
