CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man spent his birthday running the length of the state to raise money for the Nonviolence Institute in Providence.

Jon Pincince set out to run 80 miles on his 43rd birthday on Thursday, starting at 4:30 a.m. at the Buck Hill Management Area in Burrillville on the North-South Trail, WPRI-TV reported. Pincince ran 74 miles to Charlestown and stopped when he could no longer stand.

“So a bit disappointed but I’m ok,” Pincince tweeted after falling short. “Let’s end this on a positive note and everyone get their pledged donations in to @NVInstitute ASAP. Thank you!”

Pincince raised approximately $10,000, The Boston Globe reported Friday.

He decided to raise money to support the Nonviolence Institute after they decided to postpone their annual fundraiser amid the coronavirus pandemic.

To keep him motivated, several people joined Pincince at his different checkpoints and ran with him for sections of his run.
