Recycled Percussion: Celebrity band surprises students

None used an indoor voice in welcoming Recycled Percussion, a globally renowned junk rock band of celebrity locals Justin Spencer, Ryan Vezina, Davin Cox and Jimmy “Jimmy Luv” Melchionna during a surprise performance at Charlotte Avenue Elementary School in Nashua during a Jan. 17 event sponsored by NH Lottery in Concord.
“The New Hampshire Lottery is always looking to create fun experiences and opportunities in support of our mission to generate maximum revenue for public education in New Hampshire,” said Erle Pierce, commissioner for NH Lottery.
Pierce elaborated: “Through our partnership with Recycled Percussion, we were proud to bring an incredible, inspiring experience to the students and teachers at the Charlotte Avenue Elementary School in Nashua, while at the same time shining a spotlight on the nearly $3 billion the New Hampshire Lottery has generated for education since our inception in 1964.”
Charlotte Avenue Elementary School Principal Patricia “Trish” Beaulieu was gracious in accepting from Pierce an additional perk, a check for $2,500 to benefit the school’s 360 students, learners in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host Recycled Percussion here at Charlotte,” said Principal Beaulieu. “The students expressed that it is the best assembly they have ever experienced.”

Data shared in the U.S. News and World Report of Elementary School 2025 Rankings awarded Charlotte Avenue Elementary a place among the state’s “Best Elementary Schools,” reflecting among other criteria healthy percentiles in reading and math. The position of fourth place among Nashua’s 12 elementary schools is enhanced by a teacher-student ratio of 10-1.
Maura McCann, marketing director for NH Lottery, relayed some details about the origin of the band’s visit.
“The Charlotte Avenue Elementary School was randomly selected through a NH Lottery Facebook contest that generated over 800 entries,” McCann noted. “Recycled Percussion is known as the original junk rock band and originally formed in Goffstown.”
