BEDFORD – Bedford Academy, an independent, STEAM-inspired elementary school, has expanded its outdoor education space to meet curriculum and extended day program needs. The Bedford Academy Parent Association raised funds for an outdoor putting green and the school budgeted for the purchase of a monkey bar structure, which were both installed this fall.

Bedford Academy’s outdoor and wellness program includes daily physical education lessons. The monkey bars are used during those times, as well as during recess and the extended day program. Students practice their golf skills on the putting green within the physical education curriculum and a golf program is available as part of the school’s extracurricular offerings.

“Outdoor play – including sports and structured recess – promotes physical and mental well-being, along with the development of life skills like teamwork, resilience and responsibility. Golf, in particular, fosters discipline, focus and planning,” explains Roxanne Molina, PhD, Owner of Bedford Academy. “These experiences can enhance self-confidence, decision-making abilities and perseverance, helping to develop a solid foundation for future personal and academic success.”

These new additions are available to students year-round, weather permitting.
