Alleged impaired driver accused of leading troopers on pursuit that ended in crash jailed on numerous charges

Genesis Quezada, 24, of Haverhill, Massachusetts

WINDHAM — A state trooper on patrol on I-93 early Sunday morning pulled over the driver of a 2018 Honda Accord for speeding and “committing multiple lane control violations,” but as he approached the car, the driver allegedly put it in gear and took off, according to police.

So Trooper Ryan Harkonen ran back to his cruiser and went after the fleeing driver, later identified as 24-year-old Genesis Quezada, a resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts, who Harkonen suspected of being impaired, police said.

Other troopers in the area headed over to assist in the pursuit, which continued north on I-93 “despite troopers following the vehicle with their emergency lights and sirens activated,” according to police.

Shortly after crossing into Manchester, the driver, later identified as Quezada, lost control of the vehicle, which struck a guardrail along the right side of the highway in the area of Exit 8 in Manchester.

Quezada allegedly “continued in her attempt to flee,” police said, but the damage to the vehicle left it inoperable.

At that point, troopers took Quezada into custody without further incident, police said.

She was transported to the Elliot Hospital for observation, where medical staff determined she had no serious injuries.

The charges filed against Quezada include one count each of aggravated driving while intoxicated; reckless conduct; disobeying an officer; operating after suspension; reckless operation; and “multiple charges related to failing to maintain proper lane control and unsafe lane changes,” police said.

Quezada was booked on the charges, after which she was about to be released on personal recognizance bail — until it was discovered that she had two active arrest warrants pending out of Salem district court.

She was then held on $2,000 cash bail at Rockingham County jail, with arraignment set for May 19 in Derry district court.
