CONCORD — Four New Hampshire towns — Milford, Londonderry, Winchester and Ashland — have been chosen to test new ballot-counting devices at today’s elections, according to a spokeswoman for Secretary of State David Scanlan.

The testing period has been conditionally approved by the Ballot Law Commission, as the state moves toward approving a ballot-counting device to replace New Hampshire’s aging AccuVote machines.

Milford and Londonderry will test devices made by Dominion Voting Systems, while Winchester will use an Election Systems & Software (ES&S) device and Ashland will test a device produced by Clear Ballot.

Staff from Scanlan’s office and representatives of each company will be present at all four locations to assist poll workers.

Following the elections, the Secretary of State will assist with onsite, public audits on the devices to ensure their accuracy.

Ashland’s audit will take place Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the town Utility Department, 6 Collins St.

The other three audits are scheduled for Thursday. Milford’s is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the second-floor banquet room at Town Hall, while Winchester’s begins at 9 a.m. at Town Hall.

Londonderry’s audit will start at 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall, 268B Mammoth Road,

The Secretary of State will present a post-audit report to the Ballot Law Commission at its next meeting.
