NASHUA — A fire that officials say broke out underneath a mobile home then spread up into the bathroom and utility area ended up causing significant damage to the residence and displacing the person who lives there.

The resident, who was not identified, escaped the home and was uninjured, according to Nashua Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Mark Wholey.

The home, at 2 Venus Lane, is in a smallish mobile home park off of Gilson Road, where the streets are named after planets.

Crews were summoned to the scene at about 10 a.m. by calls reporting a fire in the residence. Smoke was showing from the home when the crew of Engine 6 arrived, according to Wholey.

The Engine 6 and Engine 3 crews attacked the fire, while the crew of Ladder 3 searched the building to make sure nobody else was inside.

Additional companies provided water supply and assisted in ventilating the home. The call was declared under control within an hour, Wholey said.

He said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the city Fire Marshal’s office.

The home was equipped with smoke detectors, and they were working, Wholey added.

Now that daylight savings time has arrived, Wholey reminded residents to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Also, anyone who discovers a fire in their home should not attempt to extinguish it, but rather evacuate the building promptly and call 911.
